For the composting of kitchen waste … What can I use as a counter-top container?

For years, I have an old coffee can or plastic container to keep my daily collection of waste in the kitchen until I can take them to the compost pile. The problem I am running (beyond the fact that somehow looks "raw") is that it seems more and more messages can last until the container. Shot with a direct "delusions of my kitchen to go to a larger container that can be emptied once a week.
